Fine Art CollectionThe Fine Art Collection that St. Catherine University houses is an accumulation of gifts, purchases and bequests given to the University over a 100 year period dating back to 1905. More than 1,000 pieces of art make up the Fine Art Collection, and within this collection are a number of sub-collections, such as the Clara Mairs Collection and the Adolf Dehn Collection, two Minnesota born artists who each have more than 200 works in the St. Catherine University Fine Art Collection. The collection also includes the Sisters of St. Joseph Collection, which represents a great number of works created by the Sisters of St. Joseph (the founding members of the College of St. Catherine--now St. Catherine University as of June 2009); the Corita Kent Collection, a collection of more than 20 serigraphs by Corita Kent, an artist recognized as one of America’s most influential graphic design artists of the twentieth century; and the Cecilia Lieder Collection, a collection of 20 colorful woodblock prints by the regional printmaker, Cecilia Lieder, Class of 1964. The Fine Art Collection also houses prints by Rouault, Piranesi and Kollwitz, as well as regional artists and former students, studio art professors and instructors. The majority of the collection is work on paper. However, excellent pieces of sculpture and textiles also can be found in the Fine Art Collection, including pieces by internationally recognized artists Paul T. Granlund and Neda Miranda Blaževic. The original goal of the Fine Art Collection was to expose students, faculty and staff to works of art in the classroom, as well as in their environment outside the classroom. Our current objective is to continue that original goal while placing a focus on women artists and emphasizing the vision and mission of St. Catherine University. Works from the Fine Art Collection will be added to the University's Digital Collections as they are digitized and cataloged. For more information:
